And Mikes Mazda ZOOM ZOOM.

During the week I saw the wind prediction for the weekend. Since I was off, from work, I quickly rounded up a squadron of Migs. Planed a Fly-in and crossed thumbs. We had a very good turnout. There were in excess of 12 Migs. But since there were less pilots that Migs, The electrics had to sit out this round. Daron was also there, but not in spirit, as he was in the bush looking for his Jart, which is still there somewhere. The wind was a tad more West that we would have liked, but the strength and lift was plenty. Thanx to ALL who came and supported, if not fly, your presence there was much apprecieted. Here are SOME pics, I will load more tomorrow. Watch this space.

Please pay his page a visit as he just happened to be at the slope when I needed someone to take the team photo...and a good one it is.

Thanx again Hanno.

Geralds Mig in flight.

Look at the size of those SMILES!!

A crow on Geralds tail.

Barry giving a good heave on launch.

Some more in flight shots of Geralds Mig. Your colors do well in the air Gerald!!

Barry maidens his Electric Mig.

Congratulations to Barry for a very sucessfull maiden. Refer to his report and some in flight shots.

""Gerald launched my Mig for me after repeatedly assuring me she is a dream to fly.
MY WORD was he right ! She took to the air ( in a fairly stiffish N.E. wind)and all my tension just melted away.
Immediately i could feel she was a sheep in wolf`s clothing. Some aileron trimming was needed, otherwise she was perfect !
Slow or fast there were NO nasty surprizes.I tried a roll but was flying downwind and not enough speed and i thought she would never come round, but she did and i scooped her up about 20 meters from the ground. Nervous chuckles and laughs from all of us. No more rolls after that.At least not until i`ve adjusted the aileron throws to be more, and fly faster.6 minutes later ,after a very comfortable and easy belly landing, Hi fives and handshakes all round ! What a pleasurable experience. I might just add that this plane is not for beginners.Being my first scratch build i feel pretty proud !
Here are the specs for my MIG,

All up weight : 1.8 kg ( little heavier than i would have liked, but leave that for the next one ) Turnigy Motor : C3548 1100 kv ( eq. 2826 AXI ) speed controller : 50 amp Super Simple.(card programmable) Battery : Flightmax 2200mah 3 cell
Prop : 11x6 electric ( 12X6 is recommended)
controls: aileron ,elevator ,rudder
I flew 6 mins , but 8 mins would be fine.
A 3200mah battery could be better for longer times (but more wieght of course!) Thanks again and lets not forget about Dave West !

From cloud 9

Gerald maidens his Mig.

Congratulations to Gerald on a successfull maiden. Below is his flight report.

""What a fantastic experience to maiden a plane like this one After my son hand launched for me it took to the sky like a bird With only a few clicks of down trim and she was a dream to fly on first test flight.
A bit tail heavy so action was taken.
Ten grams extra to nose for second flight and of she went Rock steady into the blue "very very happy with this MIG-7"
Nice flying qualeties.Had 3 flights in all and was not one bit nervous and had lots of fun With my new toy and cannot describe the feeling

Regards from MIG FAN
GERALD""

Well done Gerald, the color scheme looks GREAT in the air!! For the specs on his plane, check out an earlier post.

Welcome Gerald!!

Not to be outdone by Barry... :-) ... , Gerald has built an auwsome Mig. You may find in our earlier posts, all the electric Migs were 1200mm span. Gerald has built his electric, the span of our slopies!! This cause he had the power train from an earlier model. So, all he did was build the plane to suit his power. Plane specs as follows:
Span.... 1340mm
Motor...EMP 3536
35 Amp
1000KvA
400 W
2-4 cell
Weight so far without battery and esc... 1200g.
Well done Gerald!! She looks great!! As soon as we get some in flight shots, I will post.

Mig-7 teams up with an Alula.

Polly the Parrot....Darens Alula all dressed up.

Mig-7 and Alula......best of mates.
With an African sunset in the background.
Below, the Weasel.
Below, Alula and seagull, the best of mates!
Below. Flying the Alula off a 5m high sand dune. Port Elizabeth in the background.

Recently I aquired an Alula. Wow!! DreamFlight have an awsome plane, and the Weasel, well, nothing short there either. Good planes to fly when the wind is not strong enough for the Migs.

Algebra at Slipper

Sunday:

Smiley, Mike, Shaun and I found ourselves on top of Slipper again. This time we where flying of the eastern slope. I prefer flying here as we can park our cars right next to the flying site and no hiking is required like we have to on the western site.

The wind was light to moderate from the north east. There was just enough lift to keep a Mig up but definitely no acrobatics could be flown.

Smile flew his Alua and Mike had fun with his Zagie.

Shaun had no problem with the light conditions. He had some kind of delta tearing up the sky. (I think it was called”little Devil”) He even had a tussle with two rather large Hawks’

I had my Depron Swinger going quite nicely.

A little later in the afternoon Shaun brought out the “big gun”. He had acquired an Algebra thermal glider a year and a bit ago but never had a chance to fly it. So this was going to be a Maiden.

The Algebra is effectively a thermal glider with +/- 4m polyhedral wing. Strictly a elevator and rudder ship.

Well, Shaun being Shaun removed the polyhedral and added Ailerons. None of us knew how she was going to handle.

Mike was given the honors to toss the Algebra into the blue yonder.

Well it was almost an anticlimax; the Algebra took to the sky like she belongs there.

There was only a little trim needed to keep her on the straight and level.

The one thing we did find was, to turn this big bird, a lot of ailerons and rudder was necessary. Shaun was also a bit worried when it came to land this 4m ship. Slipper is not the easiest place to land a big glider with out any flaps or air brakes. But Shaun managed just fine. He slipped her in from the right avoiding any nasty rocks or bushes and set her down nice and sweet.

Very well done Shaun! She is a truly majestic bird.

Great Maiden
