How to repair a smashed wing.

Somehow in the suicide mid-air, (when you fly towards each other, which we try not to do as this just breaks your airie), Brads elevator broke in two. This is an easy repair. Push two or three wooden squewers down the flutes. No hot glue required.

Below however, takes a little more effort.

Below. Start by cutting all or most of the damage away.

Dont be shy!! Cut it away. Then add tabs for support to the patch.

Fortunately the spar did not break. Had it broken, just splint it with some off-cut 3mm ply both sides. Or if you are still at the slope, use some 5min epoxy and two sucker sticks :-)

Add patch and finish with some vynil.

As good as new!!

At our last Mig fly-in, Brad was taken out by Bretton flying a correx Zaggi. I did not get to see how the Zaggi looked afterwards. Brads Mig took it hard. I have shown how to repair a wing in earlier posts, but in case you missed it, here goes..

Rainbow

Today’s flying at Maitlands looked real promising but it turned out to be nothing to shout about in the end.

The wind swung from blowing straight up the slope (south west) to west south west with little or no lift at all.

We also had quite a bit of rain to contend with. But it brought a sight of which I had never seen before.

The water was all light up in rainbow colors almost like a rainbow was sinking into the see.

My explanation: This must be a huge rainbow just behind the horizon (curvature of the earth). You guys can decide if I am right. Or maybe supply us with your own explanation.

During the week I saw the wind prediction for the weekend. Since I was off, from work, I quickly rounded up a squadron of Migs. Planed a Fly-in and crossed thumbs. We had a very good turnout. There were in excess of 12 Migs. But since there were less pilots that Migs, The electrics had to sit out this round. Daron was also there, but not in spirit, as he was in the bush looking for his Jart, which is still there somewhere. The wind was a tad more West that we would have liked, but the strength and lift was plenty. Thanx to ALL who came and supported, if not fly, your presence there was much apprecieted. Here are SOME pics, I will load more tomorrow. Watch this space.
